The Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set was released in September of 2009 it immediately became the standard for The Beatles catalog. These remastered versions sound far better than the old CDs from the 1980s. When a listener compares the remastered CDs to the older discs it’s like the old discs are under a pile of wet towels while the new discs sound crystal clear so that all of the instrumentation and vocals push through the mix like never before.

The Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set isn’t the only Beatles box set released in ‘09 but it has been the biggest seller because it can be appreciated by the biggest set of Beatles fans. The Beatles in Mono Box Set is amazing too but it appeals mostly to hardcore fans who need to hear the mono mixes (and compare them to the stereo mixes) than to the average Beatles fan. While I will agree with the “purists” that there are some songs that sound better in mono than in stereo (particularly some of the pre Magical Mystery Tour recordings in my opinion) overall I think the stereo box set does sound best.

The great thing about The Beatles in Stereo is that it lets you to buy The Beatles entire 1960s discography with just one order and considering the extremely high quality of all of their LPs, it makes sense to buy al of the albums at one time instead of purchasing some and then getting more later.

As well as the fantastic ground breaking music included in this box set there are also some groovy visual elements, most obviously the DVD with 13 mini documentaries on it (one for each studio album.) Along with this mini documentary DVD there are extended liner notes for each CD (there is some interesting stuff in these notes, particularly for fans that are new to The Beatles) and some interesting previously unpublished photographs.

I’m such a big Beatles lover that I have got (or I plan on purchasing) The Beatles in Stereo Box, The Beatles in Mono Box Set, The Beatles USB, and The Beatles Rock Band Video Game. But if I had to choose only one of these items, it would be the comprehensive stereo box set because it is the best hear their legendary albums and after all, it is their music that made them the most legendary band of all time.
